From Solar to Microgrid: 80.1 kW Solar and 256 kWh Battery Modernization on Maryland’s Eastern Shore
Owner-confirmed Maryland Eastern Shore project: original ground-mounted solar installed in 2019, modernized in 2025 with six Sol-Ark 15K hybrid inverters and documented 256 kWh battery storage. Operating performance is not independently certified.

The original solar installation, 2019
Current RS installed the original ground-mounted solar system in 2019, according to the owner-confirmed construction chronology. The supplied engineering brief describes an 80.1 kW array using 178 Axitec 450 W modules. This arithmetic is consistent with 80,100 W of module nameplate capacity; it is not a measurement of delivered production.
Modernization, 2025
In 2025, the original inverters were removed and replaced with six Sol-Ark 15K hybrid inverters. The battery storage system was installed as part of this modernization. The owner describes a completed construction project, not a hypothetical proposal. Installation labels, approved drawings and commissioning records have not been independently verified for this publication.
What changed for the property
Conventional solar generation and a coordinated solar-plus-storage system solve different problems. The modernization added energy storage and hybrid conversion equipment. When properly designed, supported isolation and controls can enable planned loads to operate during a utility outage within the system's actual power, energy and protection limits. This case study does not claim demonstrated outage performance, whole-property backup, runtime, redundancy, savings or uninterrupted power.
Generator integration needs a separate review
The project documentation describes a 15 kW DC propane generator. A DC generator must not be treated as an ordinary AC source connected to an inverter GEN port. Its exact model, voltage, regulation, DC charging path, controls, battery/BMS coordination and protection must be confirmed from the engineering PDF and as-built evidence. No generator compatibility or commissioning outcome is certified here.
Ratings and operating outcomes are different
The stated 600A service architecture and three 200A pathways describe distribution capacity, not inverter-generated backup power. Six units bearing a 15K product name do not establish 90 kW of continuous battery-powered output, a common 600A transfer arrangement or an approved six-unit topology. Battery capacity alone does not establish usable outage energy, motor-starting capability or runtime. Final claims require exact hardware documentation, manufacturer-supported grouping and qualified technical review.
Evidence and privacy
The construction chronology and engineering-brief figures are owner-confirmed, not independently certified performance. The owner authorized publication of this case study and the three supplied photographs on October 11, 2026. Only the general Maryland Eastern Shore location is disclosed; customer identity, street address, account information and precise coordinates are not included. The photographs are authentic, metadata-cleaned copies; no equipment or scenery was generated or reconstructed. The original engineering PDF and as-built operating evidence have not been independently reviewed for this publication.
